Description

A Concept Sketch for the upcoming drawing of the Burgundian Woman Warrior in the Historically Wrong Sketch Series: Medieval Revisited. It will represent the Duchy of Burgundy under the House of Valois from the 14th to 15th century, one of Europe's most militarized and aggressive state that challenged the crown of France.

Finally, something to allow my stiff drawing hand to get back on action!

The armor depicted here is no stranger sight to any medieval enthusiast, with references readily available. The woman warrior in the centre is depicted with  Milanese Full Plate armor, complete with armet. The one on the right is depicted with sallet and gothic plate armor, while the one on the left is depicted with simpler plate armor and a barbute. At the moment, I'm still deciding which armor fashion should be chosen, but it'll most likely be the one on the center.

There's no such thing as "female plate armor" during this time, as full plate armor would make the gender of the wearer indistinguishable. Also, contrary to the popular believe, even if they are somewhat considered heavy, European plate armor were designed in such a way that it provided quick flexible movement to its user while giving maximum protection in battle. Unless and until you have armor penetrating weapon used at close range, a trained, battle ready knight in full plate armor is practically invincible.
