Description

"Si vis Pacem, Para Bellum"

Inspired by the theme: www.youtube.com/watch?v=5q6skx… - Globus Preliator

This is a conceptual preview sketch for the future project in the Historically Wrong Sketch Series, Casus Belli: Ambition & Conquest, set in the peak of Napoleonic Warfare in the early 19th century of Europe. Historically Wrong Sketch Series aims to create and portrays Women Warriors in war attires befitting each of their respective cultural representation...with a lot of anachronism and stylization :D

The previous 2 series that I have worked for mostly portrays women in battle gears, heavy.light armors and armed with either musket or close-combat weapons, depending on the series. In my opinion, Project Casus Belli would instead focus more on Women Warriors in Uniforms as compare to Women Warriors in Armors....which is something that i'm not very familiar with. But alas, when i decide to continue this project, I'm sure i will have the confidence to do so in my time :)

One thing for sure, Napoleonic Warfare is one of the bloodiest and destructive warfare recorded in the history of Europe, whose scale could not be matched until the event of World War in the 20th Century. By this time, Armies were more organized and Military Organization were strictly enforced, owing to the more centralized command structure and management, as compare to the previous era where levies lead by nobles dominated most of the warfare. The business of Killing had also became more systematic, with application of various types of weapons from muskets, cannons, cavalry to light skirmishes, ensuring that casualties to be very high on both side.

Given the bloody and often destructive settings, I wanted to portray the women warriors in different roles, ranging from commanding officer, cavalry, light skirmishes, support or even siege engineers, as it would probably more justifiable than having one to march in a line infantry formation and get shot to death in a matter or seconds =P

As for the drawing itself, I took the liberty of portraying women warriors in French Dragoon attires, Prussian Jagers (light skirmishers?) as well as Austrian Infantry Officer, with quite a lot of stylization which can be anachronistic at best, or inaccurate at worst. As i mentioned before, it's a topic I'm not very familiar with, so any feedback or suggestion is highly appreciated!

I would like to credit :iconcapturedjoe: for his idea in contributing to the creation of this series. Be sure to check out his galleries as well, he has plenty of drawing on this era too!

Also, these fellow deviants deserves their mention as well for inspiring me with the project: :iconbrossuno:, :iconbrowncoatmando:, :iconfritzvicari:, :iconironsides11:, :iconarminius1871:, and many others! Thank you very much guys! :D

Really good! :D

BTW, have you read "The Monstrous Regiment" by Terry Pratchett? Reminds me of it... ;)
