A Sketch of the Women Warrior belonging to the Trebia Empire based on Greek Byzantine Empire.

Inspired by the Music : Andreas Waldetoft - Legacy of Rome www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DD_NR…

The Women of Byzantine had always enjoyed more privileges than their western European counterpart, one of the many things that the Byzantine Greeks put their pride on. The term "Byzantine" itself maybe historically unknown to these people at that time, as they were called "Eastern Roman Empire" with the majority of Greek population.

Under Byzantine law, women are allowed to purchase and own property, choose their husbands and even divorce them is needed be. Education themselves are readily available to the masses, including women, although in reality these were reserved for the ruling nobles and families. As for joining the Army, women in the byzantine army were uncommon, but some did existed in the form of mercenary forces. One of the famous force would be the Varangii (Vikings) Employed as the royal guards of the Byzantine Royal Court. Their ranks sometimes included women.

For the Historically Wrong Series, the Women Warrior for the Trebia Empire is none other than the Queen and co-regent of the Emperor, Basilea Sotirisa of Lesbos. A powerful figure second only to her husband, she hold nearly unlimited power and strong influences in the royal court. In the sketch, she is drawn with the early byzantine crown, with roman style cuirass. Behind her are her royal bodyguards dressed in Varangian Attires.
