Description
A concept drawing of a Post-Viking, Swedish Shieldmaiden of the Historically Wrong Sketch Series: Medieval Revisited which is a recreation of the original HWS series based on the AD 800 - AD 1400 era of warfare. This is based on Christianized Sweden in the middle-ages.
There's probably very little in this drawing which can be associated with the usual portrayal of "Shieldmaiden", however, since the subject deals with post-viking era, the character is depicted in early 14th century or late 13th century attires. By this time, most of the Scandinavia is catching up with the armaments and fashion of their southern and western neighbors, which can be clearly seen by the Germanic influence on her arms and armors. The banner which she's holding, from what I've read, is called Folkunga Vapnet, and is depicted with a badly drawn lion based on the emblem of House of Bjelbo.
Also, There's just something about that conical great helm which I often come across when searching on the arms and armors of Swedish army in medieval era...In the meantime, there's so much to read about Swedish History, my mind is going nuts at the moment.
Anyway, I got the inspiration from my recent visit to a Swedish Church here in Melbourne. They have some really nice Swedish sweets, but to my disappointment, there's no Surströmming at that time...Boy, I really miss that fish smell

Surströmming and sweets? But... it's a herring Sour in taste and with one of the least forgettable smells in the world. I still praise all the saints that I had a severe rhinorrhoea while trying it and I was still feeling it.
