Description

Apparently I've been neglecting the medieval series for a while and have decided it maybe a good idea to continue from where it's left. Perhaps, Persia is a good start, since there were Persian women warriors right?

Technically speaking, Medieval Persia in the Historically Wrong Skech Series is divided into three era which includes pre-islamic persia (Zoroastrian Sassanids), Islamic Persia (post Arab-conquest) and the later Turko-Mongol Persia (Seljuqs, Il-khanate and Timurids). The three era provided rich references to explore the variety of arms and armors, which can be seen in the drawing. It also tells you what drawing will be posted next...so stay tuned

Also, in case if anyone haven't noticed, Persian Women Warriors in all the Historically Wrong Sketch series are drawn with the face hidden. This is somewhat my own artistic license, but then again, some of the helmet during the era did cover the face...

On a historical note, Persian civilization had always been respected by their neighbors. Even after the fall of the Sassanid dynasty under the Arab conqueror, the Arabs adopted many aspect of Persian art, literature, science and technology which contributed to the development of Islamic golden age. Although the native Zoroastrianism religion saw a steep decline being replaced by the new religion of Islam, Persian society preserved their own distinct culture, language and customs which were encouraged by their early Arab governors, native Persian lords as well as the later Turks and Mongols who conquered them.

In a sense, by the 10th century AD, the expansion of the Islamic polity were not of Arabic influence, rather, it was of the new Islamic Persian Influence. The Islamic dynasties in India, Transoxiana, Anatolia, Central Asia and even the Ottomans themselves, had a lot of Persian element in their administration, literature and even in warfare.
