Eufrozyna Jerzyowska 2 of Rzeczpospolita Wendowie by Gambargin Eufrozyna Jerzyowska 2 of Rzeczpospolita Wendowie by Gambargin
An upgraded concept drawing for the Polish Women Warrior of the Historically Wrong Sketch Project: Blood and Steel set in the 17th Century era of Warfare. This is probably a darker, and more sinister redesign of Euforzyna's Polish Hussar's costume....I'm not sure if it's due to stress or change of interest, but i noticed that the tone of my work is getting rather darker and more serious.

Inspired by the Music: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Suz7HU…

Her armor and helmet is more stylized as compare to her original concept sketch, Eufrozyna Jerzyowska of Rzeczpospolita Wendowie by Gambargin, with the added blood splatters to increase the dreadfulness of her image. The face protection is kept as it is instead of opting for the more historical nose guard, leaving her sole left eye to project an emotion full of fury. What's interesting to me is that, while the original character Ksiezniczka Eufrozyna Jerzyowska Czyrzniech by Gambargin is depicted as a cunning and calculating ambitious young lady who rode to battle, kills some foolish soldiers and call it a day...the upgraded version of her depicts a much more bloodthirsty image who are agressive in combat, and merciless in killing her foes. In reality, this could happen, war is a terrible experience and the mental scars from it can make people go nuts.

Nevertheless, the brush has been inked and the strokes have been made, the image of Eufrozyna is currently divided between the noble and cunning princess of the house of Czyrniech....and the Merciless angel of death as depicted in this sketch. You can have your opinion as to which is better to represent the Women Warrior of the Historically Wrong Sketch.

She looks absolutely amazing! The pose is so dynamic! And I love the slightly darker turn. The only thing that seems a bit strange is that she's fighting on foot...Maybe she was thrown off her horse?

I'm bad at drawing horse...so i guess that can be used as an honest excuse :D. But thanks for the compliment as always,

I've been thinking of drawing her in a slightly lighter way, conversing with a Lithuanian women warrior in the series, maybe it'll come out nicer :)

Gorgeous work!! :D I love the overall atmosphere you've put in this drawing. Properly scary and rough. :) Eufrozyna is such a lovely badass!!! :D

As for the rectangular shield argument, I'd suggest that maybe it's a spoil of war she kept and had decorated with the family coat of arms? Or maybe it's an old treasure kept in the family for generations and still used in battle even in 17th century? Winged Hussars would normally carry small round shields and use them during the first charge - the one that involved 10 foot long lances. Once the lances were broken, hussars would switch to heavy sabres - and the shield would then be of only minor importance. Erm, that's my understanding of it. ;)

Ah, the shield was a cover up for a mistake i did with her left hand, so my bad =P

I noticed the hussars carried round shield, but i think historically speaking it's not that common by the the 17th century.

And yes, apparently I think eufrozyna has been my favorite character so far, i'd probably make more of her drawings as compare to the other characters!

By the way, that sabre is absolutely fantastic - heavy, deadly, a true hussar weapon. Well done, mate!! Same with helmet - looks absolutely outstanding (and gives her eyes this scary, dangerous canvas). Eufrozyna truly is an avatar of badassery!! :D

for lighter fare(sort of agreeing with BrossUno)- Heroes in the Hills part 3 is just Deirderu and Gunhildr sitting on a fortress wall looking up at the stars spending a night in conversation. by the end of it they're almost as close as sisters

I'm not completely sure, but I think this is the first Historically Wrong artwork to have blood in it. Certainly a darker turn. If you're not comfortable with all the darkness, I recommend that you completely leave warriors alone for a bit and do some non war related things. How about a harvest festival, a busy market, or a ballroom dance? Or maybe some fun training or a tournament? Whatever to help you out! :)

So on the subject of your work leaning on the darker side, is that why you were asking about APH and comedy in your journal? You're trying to find a lighter hearted angle or something? If you're worried about it, maybe try another series on the side that doesn't have to do with war? Or maybe something with these characters in peace time where they're worried about political duties or more mundane concerns?

Or if you still want to stick with Blood and Steel, maybe consider scenes where your characters are interacting with friends, family, or servants? Maybe some sort of situation where informal meetings could take place. Personally I could look at neat armor from all over the world for a long time, and this is still really cool even with the darker focus, but switching things up probably wouldn't hurt for the sake of pacing and interest. Wouldn't want to burn out on things.

Well, you have a good point there. Maybe i've been reading too much about wars in the 17th century that my view has shifted a bit to the edgier side :P. Ive been thinking, normally i do the drawings with the armor, and the others with the court dress. At this stage, i'm trying to explore deeper on the emotion side, rather than the details or historical accuracy.

It's challenging, as i find that drawing human emotion is not as easy as it sounds, especially if it involves something very deep, like the loss of war as you may have seen before. Probably the aim is to portray these women warriors in a more humane way, from different perspective. Many people argue about the practicality of the armor designs or the sexuality of the image of warrior women, but i wanted to draw something different, something more emotional, something that will say, this women are human just like us.

It's just for my food of thought though, we'll see how it goes :)

I think I said it before, but I do like that you worry about stuff and you're so receptive to feedback. I'm glad you're focused on the human side and plan on doing lots of different stuff. The more rounded the character, the better.

Ah yes, thanks for the compliment :)!

Well, initially i wanted to use pistol as a pose, but i accidentally inked her left hand already, so i drew the shield as a cover up and improvisation.

Didn;t turn out that well, but oh well =P
